ESCALON POLICE VEHICLES INVOLVED IN LAST NIGHT’S TRAFFIC ACCIDENT – OCTOBER 26, 2015

ACCIDENT SCENE PHOTOS PROVIDED BY EPD.
At approx.. 10:48 PM on October 26th, Escalon Police units were involved in traffic control operations due to a tractor trailer that was disabled at Hwy 120 and the BSNF crossing. The disable vehicle required traffic to be rerouted southbound onto Irwin. At approx. 1:04 AM this morning October 27th, two Escalon Police vehicles involved in traffic control operations were struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound on Hwy 120 at Irwin. Shortly after the collision, the Honda’s engine compartment ignited into flames, and Fire personnel responded to extinguish the fire. Prior to this the driver and passenger were able to exit the car, and officers on scene used two fire extinguishers in an attempt to control the fire, to no avail. The 20 year old driver of the 2005 Honda that struck the units was not injured, but a passenger in his vehicle was injured and transported to a local hospital for minor injuries. Fortunately both officers at the scene were uninjured, but one patrol car suffered major damages, and the other moderate damages. Only one vehicle could be driven from the scene and both cannot be used for patrol operations. The California Highway Patrol responded to complete the investigation into the collision.
