ALCOHOL AND VEHICLE’S SPEED MAY HAVE BEEN THE FACTOR IN LAST NIGHT’S SOLO NON-INJURY VEHICLE ACCIDENT.
DECEMBER 05, 2015 at approximately 10:20pm, Escalon Police, Fire and emergency personnel were dispatched to a possible injury accident that had occurred on McHenry Avenue just north of Weiss Way near the Highway 120 intersection.
On arrival the authorities discovered that this was a solo vehicle accident with the driver of the vehicle being the only occupant. However, there was extensive property damage to the pedestrian walkway railing and the vehicle involved. It appeared that the driver had not suffered any major injuries.
It was surmised the driver of the vehicle was traveling northbound on McHenry Avenue approaching the railroad tracks when he was unable to negotiate the curve of the roadway which caused him to lose control of his vehicle. The vehicle struck the sidewalk curb just missing power poles and railroad crossing arms mechanism. However, the vehicle struck the pedestrian walkway safety railing causing property damage and totaling the vehicle.
Officers on the scene determined the driver was possibly impaired by alcohol and was taken into custody and transported to the Escalon Police Department for further evaluation of suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
