RIVERBANK POLICE SERVICES DEPUTIES ARREST MAN FOR BRANDISHING A MACHETE.

On May 20th, 2016 at approximately 1:00 p.m., Riverbank Police Services Deputies responded to Terminal Avenue and California Avenue in Riverbank, CA for a man seen holding a knife and yelling at people passing by. When deputies arrived they found 29 year-old Joshua Bryll standing near the roadway and he appeared intoxicated. In the bushes next to Bryll they saw what looked like a machete. 
When deputies tried to speak with Bryll he told them to stay in their patrol cars and not come near him, or he would have to kill them. Deputies tried to explain to Bryll that they were there to help him. Bryll took off his shirt, pulled the machete from the bushes and began to wave it around. 
Bryll began to walk onto the roadway as deputies tried to get him to drop the machete and surrender. Deputies believed that Bryll had become a danger to the public and deployed a Taser. Bryll was safely taken into custody and cleared by medical staff. Deputies later learned that Bryll had wanted the deputies to kill him and had pulled out the machete so they would shoot him. 
Joshua Bryll was booked at the County Jail for brandishing a weapon other than a firearm, resisting arrest and public intoxication.
