SUSPECT WITH KNIFE SHOT BY OFF-DUTY OFFICER AT MODESTO COSTCO.

Modesto, CA – Modesto Police detectives continue their investigation into a shooting which took place involving a subject armed with a knife and an off-duty Department of Corrections Officer at a north Modesto business. 

On Thursday, July 28, 2016 Modesto Police Officers were dispatched to the Costco in the 3900 Block of Pelandale Avenue just before 5 PM. They received several reports that a male subject armed himself with a knife found inside the store. While officers were responding, they received additional information that the armed suspect was shot by an off-duty California Department of Corrections officer. 

The suspect, 61-year-old Gary Harlan Scott from Modesto, was transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical, but stable condition. The off-duty corrections officer was not injured. 

The investigation is still in the early stages and no additional information can be released at this time.
