Yesterday’s vegetation fire on River Road, just east of McHenry Avenue was quickly extinguished by fire personnel

ESCALON, CALIFORNIA.

August 28, 2016

At approximately 4:12 yesterday evening, fire crews from Escalon and Farmington responded to a report of a vegetation fire on River Road, just east of McHenry Avenue.

The fire was burning on the northern side of the embankment leading to the river’s edge. The fire burned a mix of dry and green grasses under the canopy of trees and bushes. It only consumed about an acre before fire personnel put it out.

The cause of the fire was uncertain, but may have been started by sparks from a passing automobile. There was no damage to any structures or outbuildings.

Fire season is still under way and property owners should prepare defensive space around outbuildings and homes. Remember to use caution when using any type of open flame around dry brush or grasses.
