Escalon, California – Escalon Bellota Road Vehicle Versus Light Pole, Fence and Signs.
The accident was reported about 6:12 p.m. yesterday evening (02/09/17) and occurred on Escalon Bellota Road, at the intersection of E. Mariposa Road. California Highway Patrol, Escalon Fire Department, and Escalon Community Ambulance Services responded to the accident. The accident involved a solo black Dodge sedan with the driver being the sole occupant. California Highway Patrol is the primary investigating agency in this accident.
It appeared to emergency crews that the driver was traveling southbound on Escalon Bellota Road from the Farmington area and coming up to the stop sign at E. Mariposa Road, when he missed the turn. It was reported by witnesses the driver just kept traveling straight and missed the turn up to the sign on Mariposa Road. It also appeared to them that the driver continued straight and left the roadway. After leaving the road the vehicle smashed into the light pole, got airborne, took out some road signs, and then curved back to the left finally coming to rest in the ditch up against a fence on the east side of the road.
The driver was checked by Escalon emergency medical technicians on scene and appeared to have moderate injuries. The driver was transported by ambulance from the crash site to a nearby hospital and it appeared no other vehicles had been involved in the accident. The vehicle had major damage to the front end. The pole and road signs were totaled in the accident. Poor lighting of the intersection, rain, bad weather and speed may have been a factor in this accident.
The accident caused minor delays for traffic on Escalon Bellota Road at the Mariposa Road intersection. The vehicle and most of the debris was off to the east side of the roadway which caused no issues. McDowell tow services were called out to remove the vehicle from the ditch and tow it away.
