Escalon, California – Two-Vehicle Collision on Santa Fe Road near S. Harrold Avenue.
The accident was reported about 4:14 p.m. yesterday evening (04/28/17) and occurred on Santa Fe Road near the intersection of S. Harrold Avenue. California Highway Patrol, Escalon Fire Department, and Escalon Community Ambulance Services responded to the accident. The accident involved a black Toyota Corolla and a dark blue Honda Accord. California Highway Patrol is the primary investigating agency in this accident.
It was reported that the driver of the blue Honda was traveling northbound on Santa Fe Road and the black Toyota was traveling southbound on Santa Fe Road, when the driver of the Honda for some unknown reason drifted into the path of the oncoming Toyota. The driver of the Toyota said he was traveling in the direction of Riverbank when he saw the Honda crossing into his lane of travel. The driver of the Toyota also stated that he wasn’t sure if the driver of the Honda was going to continue drifting to his right. Unsure which way to turn to avoid colliding head-on, the driver of the Toyota took evasive action by turning hard to the left putting his vehicle in the southbound lane and this is when the driver of the Honda must have realized she was in the wrong lane. The driver of the Honda then braked and swerved back into her lane and this is when the collision occurred.
Everyone involved in the accident was checked by Escalon emergency medical technicians on scene. California Highway Patrol reported minor injuries and two children were transported by ambulance from the crash site to a nearby hospital. It appeared no other vehicles had been involved in the accident. The Toyota had moderate damage to the rear passenger side and the Honda had moderate damage to the front of the car. The airbags in the Honda did deploy. Inattentive driver may have been a factor in this accident.
The accident caused minor delays for traffic near the intersection of Santa Fe Road and Harrold Avenue. The Honda was blocking the southbound lane of Santa Fe Road until the CHP unit pushed the vehicle to the side of the road. There was also some debris in the roadway which caused minor issues. Tow services were called out to remove both vehicles from the crash site.
