The accident was dispatched to emergency personnel around 11:13am this morning, and occurred near the intersection of Main Street and Franklin Street. Escalon Police Department, Escalon Fire Department, and Escalon Community Ambulance Services responded to the call.
The crash involved three vehicles; a white Dodge Dakota pick up truck, a blue Scion XB, and a green Chevrolet Silverado pick up truck that was parked on the side of the street. Escalon Police Department is the primary investigating agency in this accident.
From information gathered on scene, it appeared that the blue Scion was traveling southeast on Main Street and the Dodge was traveling northwest on Main Street when the accident occurred. It was reported by witnesses that the Scion had just passed another vehicle before hitting the Dodge and then crashing into the back of the parked Chevrolet Silverado. The driver of the Dodge was attempting to turn left into a parking area on the west side of the street when the driver of the Scion ended up crashing into the front end passenger side of the Dodge. The impact caused the pick up to spin all the way around in the other direction and sent the Scion flying off the street into the back of a Chevrolet pick up truck parked on the side of the street. The airbags in the Scion did deploy. The impact caused what appeared to be minor damage to the Chevrolet and moderate to major damage to the other vehicles.
The drivers and passengers of both vehicles were checked or treated by medical emergency technicians on scene for unknown injuries. One male adult and possibly one child from the blue Scion was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. Other than the three vehicles, it appeared there were no other vehicles involved in the accident. Speed, turning and passing on a double yellow line may have been factors in this accident.
The accident reduced Main Street to one lane of travel, causing some delays to traffic until the vehicles and debris could be removed. The Dodge Dakota was partially blocking the southeast lane of Main Street and the Scion had come to rest on the dirt shoulder of the west side of Main Street, after crashing into the parked green Chevrolet pick up. Emergency vehicles were partially blocking the east side of Main Street adding to the congestion. There was also some debris in the roadway causing issues. McDowell & Davis Tow Services were called out to remove the vehicles from the crash site.
