Two-Vehicle Injury Accident on Escalon Bellota Road near Mariposa Road.

Escalon, California – On September 17, 2017, the California Highway Patrol was dispatched to a report of a traffic collision at approximately 10:19 p.m. The accident occurred on Escalon Bellota Road near Mariposa Road. The crash involved a white Fiat and a dark colored Honda Civic. Escalon Fire Department, Ambulance services from Escalon and Manteca were also dispatched to the collision. California Highway Patrol is the primary investigating agency in this accident.

(Updated Information) The Honda and Fiat were traveling southbound on Escalon Bellota Road when the collision occurred.  The Honda did a swerving u-turn into the Fiat as it was traveling southbound behind the Honda.  After the collision, both vehicles came to rest in the northbound lane of Escalon Bellota Road. While reporting the accident to emergency dispatchers, one of the reporting parties said that they could hear male occupants yelling at one another. The witness said it sounded like one of the parties possibly wanted to drive away, but was unable to give the vehicle description. Nothing was said by witnesses about a second person being in the Honda.

Both drivers and passenger involved in the accident were checked and treated by Escalon emergency medical technicians on scene. An ambulance from Manteca District Ambulance Service arrived on scene to assist and transport the passenger from the Fiat with unknown injuries to the hospital. The driver of the Honda possibly suffered a blow to the head on impact and some other unknown injuries. The driver of the Honda was transported by Escalon Community Ambulance Services to the hospital. It appeared no other vehicles were involved in the accident.

The California Highway Patrol officers gathered information from the witnesses and details from the accident scene to later determine how the collision occurred and who was at fault. The impact caused major damage to the front end and some side body damage to both vehicles.

The accident caused some delays to the late night traffic in both northbound and southbound lanes of Escalon Bellota Road while the California Highway Patrol Officers investigated the accident. The involved vehicles, along with the emergency vehicles, were completely blocking the northbound lane of Escalon Bellota Road. The roadway was reduced to one lane of controlled traffic. There was also some debris and oil in the roadway causing issues. One of the CHP officers cleared the roadway by pushing the Honda and Fiat from the northbound lane to the east side of the road with his patrol vehicle. McDowell tow services was called out to remove both of the vehicles from the crash site.
