ESCALON, CALIFORNIA: The rear-end injury accident was reported at approximately 8:40 a.m. this morning and occurred on Escalon Bellota Road near Mahon Road. The California Highway Patrol, Escalon Fire Department, and Escalon Community Ambulance Services responded to the accident. The accident involved a grey Dodge Ram pickup and a grey Chevy Silverado pickup. California Highway Patrol is the primary investigating agency in this accident.
From information gathered at the scene, both vehicles were traveling southbound on Escalon Bellota Road. The driver of the Dodge was slowing or had come to a complete stop behind a vehicle that was turning left (east) into a driveway of a nearby home. Just when the driver of the Dodge took his foot off of the brake pedal and started to move forward, the Chevy pickup crashed into the rear of his truck. The impact exploded, with truck parts and automobile fluids flying everywhere. The collision also caused major damage to both vehicles.
At least one person from the Chevy truck was treated by medical emergency technicians on scene and transported to a nearby hospital with unknown injuries. It was unclear if the driver of the Dodge was injured in the accident. It appeared no other vehicles had been involved in the crash. Speed and attention may have been a factor in this collision.
The accident caused moderate delays for traffic on Escalon Bellota Road. Both vehicles involved in the accident and emergency vehicles were blocking the southbound lane of Escalon Bellota Road. The roadway was reduced to a controlled one lane of traffic using the northbound lane. There was also some debris and automobile fluids in the southbound lane that had to be cleaned up before the lane could be reopened. Tow services from McDowell & Davis were called out to remove at least one of the vehicles from the crash site.
