HEAD-ON TRAFFIC COLLISION ON RIVER ROAD NEAR BRENNAN ROAD

ESCALON,CALIFORNIA – The collision occurred at 3:45 p.m. this afternoon on River Road just east of Brennan Road. Two units from the California Highway Patrol, Engines from Escalon Fire Department and Ambulance Services from Escalon Community responded to the accident. The accident involved two white full-size Chevrolet pick-up trucks. California Highway Patrol is the primary investigating agency in this accident.

It was reported to a CHP Officer on scene that one of the drivers had been driving erratic and attempting to pass other vehicles on the road before the collision occurred. The crash occurred when one of the drivers attempted to pass on a double yellow line and collided head-on with the oncoming vehicle. There were truck parts and automobile fluids at the point of impact. The direction that the vehicles were traveling was unclear and the CHP Officers on scene were still investigating the collision. The collision caused major front-end damage to both vehicles.

(Updated Information) At least two people that were involved in the accident were treated by medical emergency technicians on scene and one person was transported to a nearby hospital with unknown injuries.  The driver that caused the accident fled the scene of the crash with unknown injuries.  It appeared no other vehicles had been involved in the crash. Speed and passing on a double yellow line may have been factors in this collision.

There were moderate delays to traffic traveling in both directions on River Road. The roadway was completely blocked by both trucks involved in the accident and emergency vehicles. There was quite a bit of debris and automobile fluids in the roadway that had to be cleaned up before the lane could be reopened. Tow services from McDowell & Davis were called out to remove the vehicles from the crash site.
