ESCALON, CALIFORNIA – TRAFFIC ACCIDENT INVOLVING SMALL SCHOOL BUS.
On Thursday, November 09, 2017 at approximately 3:10 p.m. a collision occurred on Escalon Bellota Road near Mariposa Road between a small school bus and a silver Honda Fit. California Highway Patrol, Escalon Fire Department, and Escalon Community Ambulance Services responded to the accident. The California Highway Patrol is the primary investigating agency in this accident.
From information gathered at the scene, the school bus, with no students aboard, was traveling north on Escalon Bellota Road just rounding the curve onto Mariposa Road when the driver of the Honda Fit pulled out from the stop sign at the intersection of Escalon Bellota and Mariposa Roads in front of the school bus possibly causing the collision. The driver of the Honda Fit was attempting to turn left/south onto Escalon Bellota Road when the collision occurred. The impact caused major damage to both vehicles and left glass and other debris on the roadway.
Medical emergency technicians on scene checked on both drivers involved in the crash and no injuries were reported. No one was transported by ambulance. It appeared no other vehicles had been involved in the crash. Attention and distance judgement may have been a factor in this collision.
The accident caused moderate delays for traffic on Escalon Bellota/Mariposa Roads. The school bus came to rest on the southwest side of the road and the Honda Fit was blocking the the west turn lane of Escalon Bellota onto Mariposa. The California Highway Patrol used one of their vehicles to push the Honda Fit off of the roadway to clear that lane. Emergency vehicles were blocking the west/north lane of Escalon Bellota/Mariposa Road. The roadway was reduced to a controlled one lane of traffic using the north/west lane while fire personnel cleaned up the debris and CHP officers investigated the accident. Tow services from McDowell & Davis were called out to remove at least one of the vehicles from the crash site.
