Escalon, California – California Highway Patrol was dispatched to a report of a jackknifed big rig on December 7, 2017 at approximately 1:58 p.m. The accident occurred on Highway 120, just east of S. Murphy Road. The accident involved a red colored Freightliner semi-truck pulling a box trailer. An Escalon Fire Chief and Escalon Community Ambulance also responded to the scene. A volunteer from the Escalon Police Department happened to be the first person on scene and assisted California Highway Patrol with traffic control until a second California Highway Patrol Officer arrived. California Highway Patrol is the primary investigating agency in this accident.
The driver said that he was traveling eastbound on Highway 120 and missed his turn. He went on to say that he attempted to make a u-turn and became stuck on the uneven ground on the side of the highway.
The driver of the semi-truck was not injured in the mishap and did not require treatment from the Escalon emergency medical technicians on scene. No one was transported by ambulance. It appeared no other vehicles were involved in the accident.
The involved truck and trailer was completely blocking the westbound lane of Highway 120. The highway was reduced to one lane of controlled traffic and also caused the traffic to back up in both directions until the roadway was cleared.
A large tow truck from All Star Inc. was called out to assist in getting the truck back on the road. The tow truck driver had to first reconnect the trailer to the truck before he was able to pull the truck back onto the roadway. The roadway was cleared shortly after.
