Escalon, California – California Highway Patrol was dispatched to a report of a traffic collision on December 4, 2017 at approximately 4:37 p.m. The accident occurred on Edwards Road just east of Escalon Bellota Road. The crash involved a burgundy colored Toyota Prius and a parked big rig gravel trailer from P&L concrete. Escalon Fire Department and Escalon Community Ambulance were also dispatched to the collision. California Highway Patrol is the primary investigating agency in this accident.
From information gathered on scene the Toyota was traveling westbound on Edwards and the driver of the semi truck had left the gravel trailer partially parked in the roadway. The truck and gravel bin were detached from the trailer, while the driver was dumping gravel in a nearby driveway.
The California Highway Patrol officers on scene was still investigating how the accident happened and determining who was at fault. The impact caused major damage to the front end and some side body damage to the Toyota. The gravel trailer also received moderate damage.
The driver of the Toyota received minor injuries from the airbag deployment and was treated by Escalon emergency medical technicians on scene. No one was transported by ambulance. It appeared no other vehicles were involved in the accident.
The accident caused Edwards Road to be closed to through traffic in both directions while the California Highway Patrol officers investigated the accident. The involved vehicle and trailer, along with the emergency vehicles, were completely blocking both lanes of Edwards Road.
There was also some debris and automobile fluids in the roadway causing issues. McDowell tow services was called out to remove the Toyota from the crash site.
