WeEscalon – May 30, 2018.
Escalon, California – The California Highway Patrol was dispatched to a report of a traffic collision around 06:43 a.m. yesterday morning that had occurred on Highway 120 near the intersection of Sexton Road. The Escalon Fire Department and Escalon Community Ambulance Services also responded to the collision. The crash involved a dark colored Honda and one power pole. California Highway Patrol is the primary investigating agency in this accident.
Information gleaned at the scene was the driver of the Honda was traveling eastbound on Highway 120 and was just passing through the intersection at Sexton Road when the accident occurred. The driver was the only person in the vehicle. A witness told the CHP Officer on scene that when he first arrived, the car was smoking and it took two guys to pry open the window to get the driver out to safety. The witness believes there was another vehicle involved in the accident and it had left the scene. He went on to say the vehicle may have caused the driver of the Honda to veer off the roadway and collide with the power pole.
The impact caused major damage to the Honda, which looked totaled, and completely sheared off the power pole at the base. The driver involved in the accident was checked by Escalon emergency medical technicians on scene and transported by ambulance to Doctors Hospital Modesto with moderate injuries.
The accident caused minor delays to the morning traffic in both eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 120 with emergency vehicles only partially blocking the eastbound lane. The Honda was out of the roadway on the southside shoulder. An Escalon Public Works crew showed up to provide some traffic cones to help with traffic. McDowell tow services was called out to remove the vehicle from the crash site. PG&E and phone services were notified of the damage to the pole
