ESCALON, CALIFORNIA – TWO VEHICLE POSSIBLE INJURY ACCIDENT AT THE INTERSECTION OF MCHENRY AVENUE  AND RIVER ROAD. (Roundabout)

On Wednesday, August 01, 2018 at approximately 7:47 p.m. a collision occurred at the McHenry Avenue and River Road roundabout.  The accident involved a white Chevrolet Colorado pick up and a white Chevrolet Trail Blazer.  The California Highway Patrol, Escalon Fire Department, and Escalon Community Ambulance Services responded to the accident.  The California Highway Patrol is the primary investigating agency in this accident.  The Escalon Police Department had units already on the south side of the McHenry Bridge providing traffic control for a previous incident involving an overturned tomato truck trailer causing traffic issues.  An Escalon police officer also assisted CHP with traffic control by diverting the southbound traffic from the bridge.

From information gathered at the scene, the Chevrolet Colorado was traveling south on McHenry Avenue and had just entered into the River Road roundabout when the truck was struck from the passenger side by the Chevrolet Trail Blazer entering the roundabout from eastbound River Road.  The impact caused moderate to major damage to both vehicles and left glass and other debris on the roadway.

McHenry Avenue southbound traffic was detoured and traffic from both directions of River Road was redirected away from the bridge.  There was significant delays for northbound traffic on McHenry Avenue because of the overturned tomato truck trailer and the accident.
