Escalon, California – The accident was reported at approximately 7:58 p.m. yesterday evening and occurred on Highway 120 at the intersection of Steinegul Road. California Highway Patrol, Escalon Fire Department and Escalon Community Ambulance Services responded to the accident. The accident involved three vehicles; a grey Acura TL, a white Range Rover and a small grey Chevrolet suv. California Highway Patrol is the primary investigating agency in this accident.
Witnesses on scene stated that the driver of the grey Chevrolet suv was traveling south on Steinegul Road and just plowed right through the stop sign and crashed into the passenger side of the grey Acura that was westbound on Highway 120. It was unclear if the white Range Rover, that was traveling eastbound on Highway 120 and was slowing to make a left hand turn onto Steinegul Road, was hit by the Chevrolet or by the Acura after those two vehicles collided. All three vehicles appeared to have major damage.
California Highway Patrol reported major injuries. At least two victims of the accident were treated by medical emergency technicians on scene and transported to nearby hospitals. The jaws of life had to be used by the Escalon firemen to extricate the driver of the Chevrolet from the vehicle before being transported to the hospital. The driver of the Land Rover reported no injuries to the emergency personnel on scene. It appeared no other vehicles had been involved in the accident. Alcohol and/or drugs may have been a factor in this accident.
Highway 120 was closed to through traffic causing major delays for vehicles traveling in both directions. Crashed cars, emergency vehicles, heavy debris, and automobile fluids covered the roadway. McDowell & Davis were called out to remove the vehicles from the crash site. It was approximately one and a half hours before the roadway was cleared to be reopened.
